Yonaguska Colt Tops OBSC Opener

Hip No. 263, a colt by Yonaguska consigned by Paul Sharp, was purchased by Joseph Brocklebank, agent for Repole Stable for $210,000 to top the June 17 opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2008 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.

The dark bay or brown colt, a half brother to Illinois Derby (gr. II) winner Recpaturetheglory, is out of stakes placed Cold Awakening, by Dehere. He sped a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.

For the session, 192 horses brought a total of  $4,003,200 compared with 155 horses grossing $3,135,300 at last year’s opening session. The average price was $20,850, up from $20,228 in 2007, while the median price was $13,000, up from $12,000 in the corresponding session a year ago. The buyback percentage was 15.8%; compared with 35.9% in 2007.

Hip No. 170, a colt by More Than Ready consigned by Randy Miles, was sold to Debbie Easter, agent for Minor Stables, for $145,000. The dark bay or brown colt, whose quarter in :21 1/5 was co-fastest at the distance at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of Access, by Forty Niner, and is a half brother to stakes placed Inomuff.

M. S. T. S., Agent, went to $130,000 for Hip No. 265, a colt by Maria's Mon whose eighth of a mile work on Saturday in :10 flat was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), the dark bay or brown colt is out of Colonial Cat, by Boston Harbor, a daughter of graded stakes winner Stellar Cat, by Storm Cat.

Hip No. 154, a colt by Strong Hope also consigned by Wavertree, was purchased for $125,000 by Kim Valerio, agent. The dark bay or brown colt, out of stakes winner Wage a Penny, worked an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Hip No. 59, a colt by Freud consigned by Tradewinds Farm, went to Brocklebank, as agent for Repole Stable, for $120,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked a quarter in :21 2/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Solar Song, by Fly So Free, a full sister to stakes placed Flying Free.

Hip No. 121, a colt by Deputy Commander consigned by Mike Akoury, Jr., was sold to State Line Farm for $120,000. The chestnut colt, a half brother to Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Da’Tara, is out of Torchera, by Pirate’s Bounty. He worked a quarter in :24 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.
