Greg’s Gold, winner of the 2005 Bing Crosby Handicap (gr. I) and an earner of $1,067,923, has been retired from racing because of “wear and tear,” according to his trainer, David Hofmans. The 7-year-old gelding will be pensioned at Harris Farms in Coalinga, Calif.

Greg’s Gold last raced on April 5, winning the Potrero Grande Handicap (gr. II) by 1 ¾ lengths. The other added-money victories in his career came in the Pat O’Brien Handicap (gr. II) -- when he set a Hollywood Park record for 7 ½ furlongs of 1:26.78 -- Tiznow Stakes, and On Trust Handicap, all in 2007. Greg’s Gold’s efforts also included runner-up finishes in the Bing Crosby and Potrero Grande in 2007, and a third in the 2005 Tiznow. He finished second in the 2007 Ancient Title Stakes (gr. I) and the 2008 San Carlos Handicap (gr. II), and he was third in the 2007 Vernon O. Underwood Stakes (gr. III).

Bred and raced by William Boswell, Greg’s Gold (Lake George – Lake Windermere, by Fit to Fight) had a career record of nine victories, 10 seconds, and two thirds in 25 races.
